How To Distinguish The Quality Of Heat Shrink Sleeve
- Aug 13, 2018 -

To know how to identify the quality of a heat shrink sleeve, we need to know what a heat shrink sleeve is.

1. What is a heat shrink sleeve

The heat shrink sleeve is generally made of polyolefin and has a reduced diameter after heating. Its caliber is also different in diameter and thickness. Due to the different expansion processes, the expansion ratio of the heat-shrinkable tube and the shrinkage rate will be different. The conventional one is twice, and of course, three times, four times or more. Heat-shrinkable sleeves are often used in the connection of electrical engineering wire conductors and wire joints to provide protection against environmental protection. Bundled wires can also be used to protect the wires and small terminals in order to increase the tightness of the electrical junction box.

To understand how to identify the quality of heat shrink tubing, you need to know what applications are available for heat shrink tubing.

2, heat shrink sleeve application

Application: Place the heat-shrink tubing at the junction of the wires and heat with a heat gun or similar tool. If you don't have these tools, you can also use a lighter or a soldering iron (close to but not touching). Shrinking is simple and convenient, but the effect is not good. Irregularly shaped joints can be used with high-shrinkage heat shrink tubing (conventional heat shrink tubing is 2 times shrinkage). This provides good electrical insulation while also isolating dust, solvents and other foreign matter. If the heat is overheated, the heat shrinkable tube will melt and burn when it is heated too high. A heat shrink sleeve with a hot melt inside provides a good seal and better adhesion. Ordinary heat-shrink tubing relies only on the friction between the materials and the shrinkage of the heat-shrink tubing. The heat shrink sleeve is a thermoplastic material such as polyolefin, silicone rubber or fluororubber.

To really understand how to identify the quality of the heat shrink tubing, we also need to understand the material of the heat shrink tubing.

3, heat shrink sleeve material

Polyolefin heat shrink tubing is the most common type, with a maximum continuous use temperature from -55 to 125 ° C and is used in the military, aerospace and railway industries. They are flexible and fast shrinking, and the range of colors (including transparent) of the product is very wide and suitable for wires of various colors. In addition to black, they tend to have lower UV resistance, and only black is recommended for outdoor use. The usual shrinkage ratio is 2:1, while the high quality polyolefin shrinks at 3:1.
